Calvin Klein History
Calvin Richard Klein was born on 19 November 1942 in the Bronx, New York.
He was raised in the borough of middle class Jewish/Hungarian community of immigrants.
Very early he developed a passion for fashion and designing.
He attended the High School of industrial Art and he graduated with the age of 20, from the Fashion Institute of Technologies.
Richard met there the student Jayne Centre.
1964
The two married, two years after he completed his course work.
Klein was one of several design leaders raised in the Jewish immigrant community in the Bronx, along with Ralph Lauren and Robert Denning.
1968
Klein set out to launch his own clothing company with his friend Barry Schwartz. They started to design and sell women coats.
1970
He added a sportswear collection. His clothes became very popular including the ready-to-wear women collection.
1970, Calvin Klein launched his jeans range-the original designer jean.
He advertised with the model Brooke Shields.
1982
Calvin Klein introduced the men’s underwear.
1980’s
He entered the fragrance market.
Calvin Klein label expanded over the year’s including swimwear, accessories and eyewear.
1990
He started to manufacture a more affordable range under CK
Recently he launched A Cosmetic and Make up line sold exclusively in fine designer stores.
Klein is considered as the most prominent American Fashion Designer and became many awards like the Coty Award, CDFA ect.
1974
Klein and his wife Jayne Centre divorced (they had a little daughter, Marci)
1986
He married Kelly Rector, they have divorced since
2003
Philips-Van Heusen bought the company Designers at Calvin Klein.
The creative director for Calvin Klein Collection for women is Brazilian-born Francisco Costa who had already worked with Mr. Klein directly before the founder’s departure from the company. Italo Zucchelli, a former Jill Sander and Romeo Gigli designer, had collaborated with Calvin Klein for six seasons before he became head designer of the Calvin Klein Collection menswear line in spring 2004Brands of Calvin Klein:
